Invade #02(2024)

Prathueang Kampat
Mixed media on canvas
80X100

Similar to the previous installment, this work by Prathueang Kampat features a colossal animal close-up, expressing intense inner strength and primal energy, yet shows a subtle shift in color application. The artwork captures the face of a giant bull or water buffalo in extreme close-up, compelling an intense visual confrontation with the viewer. Unlike the previous work, which was dominated by reds and dark tones, this piece uses a vibrant palette mixed with bright gold and turquoise to depict the animal’s hide and fur. While deep crimson and indigo tones still mix around the nose and mouth, suggesting profound emotion and primal power, the golden sheen covering the face and the green background emphasize the entity’s divinity or connection to nature. The rough, textured brushwork vividly conveys the animal’s skin and muscle, and as the title ‘Invade’ suggests, the energy of this intense and mysterious presence feels as if it is forcefully penetrating the viewer’s consciousness. Through this portrait, Prathueang Kampat prompts a recognition of the inner wild power that we often ignore or suppress, transcending a mere depiction of an animal.
