Street Sensibility and Surrealism Combined — Strange Realities Within the Familiar
Nutdanai Sirikes, also known as “Stranger from Planet D,” is an emerging Thai artist who explores the boundary between reality and imagination through a sensibility of blue tones. The figures in his work are often self-representations, appearing simultaneously as strangers from another planet. Wandering through cities, streets, seas, and skies, these characters symbolize alienation, hope, and fleeting moments of small but precious happiness. Through his art, he asks viewers: “Are you the stranger in this world, or is the world strange to you?” In his signature Smile More series, Nutdanai combines graffiti-inspired techniques with surreal compositions to depict a journey toward joy. His work gained notable attention at the 2024 Wet Floor Art Exhibition, where its refreshing yet profound message resonated with audiences. The blue tones in Nutdanai’s paintings are not mere backgrounds but waves of emotion, with the tiny figures representing our inner solitude and hope. His art ultimately whispers: “Even if we are not aliens, we all come from slightly unfamiliar stars.”
