‘Children And Modern Media’ by artist Sutee Lekpanyawat is a sculptural work that explores the impact of modern media on a child’s identity and senses. The piece depicts a child figure in a meditative posture, yet the overall expression is far from tranquil. The child’s body is treated with a cool, purplish hue, and their eyes are either closed upward or convey a look of being overwhelmed. The most prominent features are the base surrounding the child and the cap worn on their head, which are rendered in a swirl of intense, constantly shifting, multicolored hues. These colorful patterns symbolize the visual stimulation and information overload streaming from smartphone screens and digital media. The work metaphorically shows how a child’s boundaries of identity blur and the inner self becomes alienated amid such excessive media stimulation, prompting a deep reflection on the mental landscape of contemporary children.
