As suggested by the title, ‘Stamp,’ this artwork uses the image of a worn and cracked postcard as its backdrop for a bizarre, robotic character that satirically reinterprets the Statue of Liberty. The character has a rusted, tin-can body, wears the Statue of Liberty’s crown, and holds a massive pencil or pen instead of a torch. This figure is a metaphor for values that become distorted or fade over time—especially noble concepts like ‘liberty’ or ‘message delivery’—which have become like rusty, old mechanical parts in contemporary society. The ‘THANK YOU’ stamp at the bottom symbolizes hollow and formal expressions of gratitude or communication. Through this strange, antique image, the artist powerfully addresses the paradoxes of modern civilization and communication.
